New Malay Edition Released

Hopis Protest a US Government Utilities Project That Rips up Their Ceremonial Chambers, Kivas

In May the first issue of a Malay language edition of Hinduism Today, called Akhbar Hinduisma, was released. Over 6 million Hindus-and perhaps 50 million Hinduized Indonesians-speak Malay in Malaysia, Bali and Indonesia. Malaysian Edition franchisee, Pathmarajah Nagalingam, and head translator Sugumaran Apparu dedicate the new edition to all the Hindu youth who will be better informed with an international journal in their native tongue. Akbhar is Malay for "newspaper" and carries a subtlesense of its Arabic meaning, "great."

For the first few issues, only a few pages were translated and inserted as a supplement into the five-year-old Malaysian English edition. Then, last month the entire paper was translated. Soon it will be issued as a separate edition with its own subscription base.
