BRADFORD, UK, April 7, 2008: A #3 million state-of-the-art Hindu temple, opened by the Queen, is set to be inaugurated. The Hindu Cultural Society of Bradford will perform Murti Pran Pratishtha Mahotsav consecration rituals at the Shree Laxmi Narayan Hindu Temple, in Leeds Road, from Wednesday until Sunday. About 10,000 worshipers are set to attend the event, including 3,000 people from across the country on the last day.

The official event comes after the Queen and Prince Philip visited the temple as part of their tour of the city in May last year. The Royal couple honored Hindu tradition, swapping their shoes for slippers on entering the temple. The society is looking for donations for the project.

Texas Christians’ View of Indian History

Tuesday, April 8th, 2008

www.textbookreviews.org

TEXAS, USA, March 4, 2008: Mel Gablers’ Educational Research Analaysts are a self-described “conservative Christian organization that reviews public school textbooks submitted for adoption in Texas.” They are important, they go on to say, as “Our reviews have national relevance because Texas state-adopts textbooks and buys so many that publishers write them to Texas standards and sell them across the country.” For a long article on the organization, click here. HPI recommends anyone involved in the school textbook issue in America read this article and study the organization’s website. We were amazed to find this recommendation as part of advice to “Prevent stereotypes of whites-as-oppressors and people-of-color-as-victims from slanting discussions of Western imperialism by noting that: …. British rule brought peace and a common language (English) to deeply divided India, ended or opposed suttee, infanticide, and child marriage there, improved Indian health, education, and transportation systems, and merely added another caste to the existing system.”
