HAMBURG, GERMANY, August 15, 2019 (Press Release by Dr. Wolfgang Woellmer): The 5th International Conference on the Phenomenon of the Holy Mt. Kailash will take place at the University of Hamburg, Germany, March 21-22, 2020. Detailed information is available at "source" above. The conference theme is "Compilation of Traditional and New Aspects of Mt Kailash and Surrounding Pilgrimage Sites." It is sponsored by the Khyentse Center for Tibetan Buddhist Textual Scholarship, Department of Indian and Tibetan Studies at the University of Hamburg, supported by the Numata Center for Buddhist Studies and the Academy of World Religions and organized by the Phenomenon of Kailash Research Group of Bulgaria, Germany and Russia. The conference will be conducted in English.

Kailash in the far west of Tibet is one of the holiest mountains in the world, revered by Hindus, Buddhists, Jains and Bonpo. During the last two decades, more Westerners have set out for this remote region and Indian pilgrims have increased on a large scale in part because of recent improvements in the infrastructure and more. Neighboring sites of interest include Lake Manasarovar, Lake Raksas Valley, Tirthapuri and the historical Guge Kingdom, as well as the sources of the four big rivers: Brahmaputra, Karnali (headstream of the Ganges), Sutlej and Indus.
