PURI, ORISSA, September 14, 2003: Devotees of Lord Jagannath can soon order for Lord’s prasad (blessed food) from their home. The Orissa Postal Circle is going to join hands with the Jagannath temple administration to send prasad by post if the devotee is willing to pay in advance. According to chief postmaster Vatsala Raghu, the plan will come into force next month after signing of a memorandum of understanding between the temple administration and the department of post. Under the new service, the devotee is required to send the money to the Puri postmaster and the postal department will ensure that the prasad is delivered at the devotee’s home. Devotees in Orissa will have to pay US$1.77, those from outside the state $3.16 as a money order addressed to the Puri postmaster. This article doesn’t say if the prasad can be sent overseas.
