BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA, October 17, 2003: Ramakrishna Ashrama Argentina was founded by Swami Vijoyanandaji on March 18, 1933, in Buenos Aires City. During the last 70 years the monks and devotees of Sri Ramakrishna have been continuing to practice the ideals of Ramakrishna Vedanta in South America. In 1941 the Ashram was moved to Bella Vista, a suburb to the west of Buenos Aires. Here, monks offer scriptural classes (in Spanish) and read from religious texts. On Sundays, lunch is served to the devotees and evening arati is performed. In recent years, devotees have organized a number of Ramakrishna Vedanta Associations and Study Groups in Flores, San Cristobal, San Miguel, Mar del Plata, Pehuajo and Mendoza in Argentina and in Rocha and Montevideo in Uruguay. There are also centers in San Pablo, Rio de Janeiro, Curitiba and Belo Horizonte in Brazil. Swami Pareshananda, the Minister-in-Charge since 1989, continues to deliver discourses on religious subjects, interview those interested in spiritual life, and take care of administrative responsibilities.
