NEW DELHI, INDIA, November 19, 2003: Nisha Sharma, who hit the headlines six months ago for sending her fiance to jail for demanding dowry, has married a software engineer. The marriage was solemnized at a quiet ceremony at her residence in Noida on the outskirts of Delhi. Her husband’s name is Ashwin Sharma. Nisha became an icon for millions of youth when she called the police and got her fiance and his mother arrested for demanding more than the agreed upon amount of dowry on the day of the wedding. “I have got my life partner. I want to forget the past and start a new life,” said Nisha. She was dressed in a deep red sari for the marriage. As per her mother-in-law’s wishes, Nisha will now be known as Nitisha for “better luck.”
