HOUSTON, TEXAS, February 29, 2004: Indicorps sends the following press release:

Indicorps offers competitive fellowships for Indian-Americans/Canadians interested in spending a full year (August 15, 2004 to August 1, 2005) on unique social service projects in India. This year, the 13 opportunities range in focus from Building Life Skills through Extracurricular Programs to Revitalizing Traditional Art to Organic Farming to Environmental Sanitation as Academia. Fellowships are designed as one-of-a-kind transformational experiences, emphasizing both public service and personal growth. All fellows will participate in a four-week orientation program, share experiences through regular retreats, and are actively supported by Indicorps and partner organizations. Prospective fellows must be of Indian origin with a college degree or five years equivalent work experience. The application, updates from current fellows, video about our programs, and more information is available online at “source.” Applications are due Saturday, March 27, 2004.

Rish Sanghvi, 2002 Indicorps Fellow, offers this testimony: “As a Bay Area resident for 10 years, the tug of the all powerful Silicon Valley dollar was strong. But something about the purported mission of Indicorps — ‘service for the soul’ — had an almost romantic appeal. It sounded like a good idea to serve the country of my origin, learn from it, immerse in it. So I embarked on a one year journey — a year that now stands out as the definitive catalyst of a lifelong transformation.”
