NEW DELHI, INDIA, April 3, 2004: The Observer Research Foundation (ORF) in New Delhi will publish a series of books and monographs covering the nations of the Subcontinent. The first set of volumes will concern the provinces and territories of Pakistan, India’s neighbor to the West. These publications are part of ORF’s Institute of Asian Studies, that will house a database of information on linguistic and/or ethnic/cultural regions within Southern Asia. They are issuing a call for papers by Sindhi and Sindh-friendly historians, economists, and other scholars specializing in fields such as but not limited to archaeology, ecology, ethnomusicology, foreign relations, literature, political science, and riparian studies. These essays would be published in an edited volume to highlight Sindhi cultural and historical legacies and the contemporary geopolitical situation.

The primary goal of this project is to increase agency and authenticity for Sindhi and other sub-national scholarly perspectives on historiography, economics, politics, culture, foreign relations, etc. Such a perspective is currently missing from Western and Indian and noticeably from Pakistani policy planning and popular or scholarly discourse. These volumes will help remedy this deficiency.
