NEW DELHI, INDIA, May 23, 2004: Twenty-four students from Shri Ram School began a fifteen-day mission recently to figure out how to save the Yamuna River from pollution. These 12-year-olds are part of a project initiated by We for Yamuna and Development Alliance. The group will stop at thirteen destinations on the River Yamuna so that water purification tests can be taken and the heritage of life along the river can be studied. The article says, “Once they are back from the thirteen destinations to be covered, the students will showcase their findings at an exhibition – ‘Impressions and Expression.’ ” Along the way, the students will be coached by environment and ecology experts. Vimlenda Jha, founder of We for Yamuna says, “Yamuna, the capital’s lifeline, is dying. We decided to chart the course of the river and understand how it’s polluted. We need creative ways to spread awareness about pollution and this is one such way. Children are the future chain-members of the movement to save the Yamuna.”
