AMRITSAR, INDIA, July 12, 2004: Kamal Kishore is out to prove that he can do the impossible. A devout Hindu, this 44-year-old handloom worker living in Amritsar has started a 675-km-run to the holy shrine of Amarnath, 12,500 feet above sea level. This would seem ordinary to most, but Kamal plans to achieve this feat in one week, clocking on an average 96 kilometers per day. That is 13 hours of daily running. “The entire pilgrimage is nearly 675 km, and I will run 100 km every day and complete the pilgrimage in seven days. And by Lord Siva’s blessings, I am hopeful there will be no hindrance in completing it,” Kishore said. Kishore has reportedly prepared well for the run, building up his leg muscles with special altitude training in anticipation of the low pressure and the biting cold.
