BURTON UPON TRENT, ENGLAND, September 18, 2004: The following request has come from Syd Bill, convenor of this event:
We are arranging the launch of Burton upon Trent Inter Faith Network, on October 10, 2004. Although I have local Hindu friends, I am having difficulty in a) finding a Hindu speaker to give his/her thoughts on inter faith dialogue, and b) ensuring local Hindus attend the meeting. We do want to ensure we have good representation from all faiths. It is intended that we improve local dialogue and understanding, and learn to work together for the benefit of the community. Those interested may e-mail Syd at “source.”
According to the Interfaith Handboo, the organization’s main aims are to improve relationships and understanding between people of different faiths; to encourage dialogue between faiths; to consider ways in which we can work together on local issues. It was founded in 2004 and currently involves members who are Christian, Hindu, humanist, Muslim and Sikh. The activities are listed as: multi faith dialogue; discussion meetings on religious topics; discussion meetings on social issues; inter faith awareness raising; promoting good community relations; making statements on current issues; social gatherings; shared meals; visiting places of worship; educational events/exhibitions environmental projects; joint fundraising for charity; assisting on multi faith civic ceremonies; sending representatives to serve on local government strategic initiatives; regular newsletter. This is a new initiative and its activities may be developed to include other areas.
