NADI, FIJI, December 24, 2004: The fifth edition of the popular book “Nadi Temple, Worship Rites & Festivals – Their Meanings” written and edited by Shri M. R. Balaganpathi, Ex-Principal of Shri Vivekananda College, Nadi and Fiji Sangam Tamil Language Advisor will be officially released during 2005 annual Thai Poosam Festival to be held in January at Siva Subramaniya Swami Temple, Nadi. The 266-page book has been printed in Chennai by family of a 90-year-old Murugan devotee now living in New Zealand, Shri Balaganapathy, and totally financed by family members and friends to support the Temple in Fiji. The book will be available at US$10.00 from Sangam Head Office, P O Box 9, Nadi, Fiji (email: “source” above) in January.
The 2005 Thai Poosam begins on January 20 and ends on the 30th. Thiru Ravi Gurukkal, Chief Priest of Tirutanni Murugan Temple, will be leading the prayers along with the Nadi Temple Priest, Anand Gurukkal, and his assistant, Mohan. The 10-day Thai Poosam festival at Nadi Temple is the largest Hindu religious festival in Fiji and each year attracts thousands of of devotees from not only all corners of Fiji but also from amongst the numerous devotee families who have migrated and settled in USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. The Nadi Siva Subramaniya Swami Temple along with numerous other temples in Fiji dedicated to Murugan, Marimman and Venkatesh Perumal are run by Then India Sanmarga Ikya Sangam, one of the largest cultural organizations in Fiji having sister societies in USA, Canada, New Zealand and Australia, founded and run by Fiji South Indian migrants settled in these countries.
