CHENNAI, INDIA, January 2, 2004: The final act in the Kanchi seer case is all set to be played. The police after managing to round up all the main accused in the case are said to have reached the stage of filing the chargesheet. According to highly-placed sources, a 400-page chargesheet is almost ready with final touches being given in the Sankararaman murder case. The Special Investigation Team, which has been handling the case, is also making a few last minute investigations into the case. Sources say a team has left for Mumbai to question a man who is said to be very close to Sri Jayendra Saraswati. The man identified as “Bombay” Shankar, will be interrogated over the next few days. He was involved in some of the trusts of the Mutt. Whatever he has to say may form the icing to the huge case that the police have built up against the Seer and his associates in the Mutt in the Sankararaman murder case and the Auditor Radhakrishnan assault case, sources said here today. They also added that a few others, reportedly close to the Mutt, have been questioned over the last few days. One of them was Bombay Krishanan. He was questioned for over four hours yesterday. Bombay Krishnan, said to be one the assistants of the Maha Periyavar Sri Chandrasekhara Saraswati (Jayendra’s predecessor), may be included as a witness in the auditor assault case. “We think we have covered all the angles in the case,” a source quoting an investigating member said. The police, however, do not rule out further arrests in the case. So far, 24 people have been arrested in the Sanakararaman murder case. Among them are Sri Jayendra Saraswati, Appu alias Krishanswamy, Ravi Subramaniam, Kanchi Mutt manager Sundaresa Iyer and the junior pontiff’s brother, Raghu. The last named was arrested after over 10 sessions of interrogation. The police have also questioned the junior Seer twice over the last week. On the filing of the chargesheet, sources say that the police does not want to hurry or hasten things. “The chargesheet is almost ready. But we are looking at it from every angle so that there is no room for any goof up. We think we have a water-tight case,” the sources added.
