DELHI, INDIA, February 26, 2005: From February 23 to 25, up to one million people participated in “Bhagwati Jagran,” an all-night singing of devotional songs to the Goddess. The stage alone was 875 feet long and 200 feet deep in the middle. The event was very popular with residents. A large number of well known, internationally acclaimed bhajan singers associated with the Hindi films are singing devotional songs in praise of mother Goddess all through the nights. Aastha Channel is telecasting the event live for the audiences of their channel in India and abroad. Rajiv reports, “There is a very huge statue of Lord Siva occupying a central place on the 875 feet stage. Besides, super-human-size statues of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are there in the tented area which is spread in around a one kilometre area. Thought the jagran takes place at night, even during the day time there were thousands people standing in queues to have a look at the huge platform and the large number of Deities which have been put up. The roads near the event are experiencing a virtual traffic jam through out the night while the jagran is on.”
