CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, June 30, 2005: As part of the celebrations of its Platinum Jubilee, the Vivekananda Vedanta Society of Chicago held a conference on “Vedanta For The Global Village” at the Vivekananda Monastery & Retreat in Ganges, Michign, June 24-26. Thirteen swamis of the Ramakrishna Order and over 350 devotees participated in the 3-day event. The conference, which was one of the largest gatherings of swamis of the Ramakrishna Order in the United States, focused on the message of Vedanta and its value for the Global Village. Swami Prameyananda from Belur Math in India was the Chief Guest, and Swami Swahananda from the Vedanta Society of Southern California gave the keynote address. Devotional Bhajans were provided by Dr. Ram Sai Bala and his group. The program included an Audio/Visual presentation on the Sri Ramakrishna Universal Temple, which is being built by the Vivekananda Vedanta Society. Swami Chetanananda from the Vedanta Society of St. Louis, showed his new DVD on “Tales & Parables of Sri Ramakrishna.” The Ramakrishna Order, which is known for its humanitarian activities in India, is one of the chief proponents of Vedanta in the West. Vedanta’s teachings of the divinity of man, the oneness of existence, the harmony of religions, and work as worship are vitally needed to bring harmony to human society as it becomes a “global village.” For more information you click “source” above.
