NADI, FIJI, July 1, 2005: The Sri Siva Subramanya Swamy Temple here begins preparations for its 12th year Maha Kumbabhishekam scheduled for July, 2006, with the Balasthapana Puja. “Balasthapana Puja” is for taking the shakti (spiritual power) from “sthoopi” i.e. the upper most part of the gopuram (temple tower) and from all the respective Deities for bringing that shakti to the kalash (water pots) followed by special pujas and fire worship. After this puja the kalash water will be poured on a painted wooden piece, in which the sthoopi is drawn. This means that the shakti from the gopuram sthoopi will be brought into the wooden piece in which the sthoopi is drawn. After this puja only can the renovation, painting & other works be carried at the temple premises. This Balasthapana Puja will be performed by Sri K. V. Ravi Gurukkal, Chief Priest Sri Siva Subramanya Swamy Temple, Tiruttani, South India. Upon completion of the renovation, the shakti will be returned to the gopuram during the Maha Kumbabhishekam ceremonies. For more information, contact N.K.
