KARNATAKA, INDIA, September 26, 2005: An official statement was issued by Deputy Chief Minister M P Prakash that the government was committed to taking over the administration of the Krishna mutt in Udupi. Apparently an official of the Law Ministry had made an attempt to thwart the take over by stating in a letter that the government needed to go for an appeal with regard to the stay granted by the courts for the take over of the mutt’s administration. Prakash explains, “The letter has been written without the knowledge of any body in the government. Law minister has also taken it seriously and action will be taken against the official. Out of the eight mutts in Udupi, six mutts have obtained stay from the High Court and two mutts have got stay from the Udupi civil court and the government was doing everything to get the stay vacated. There is no change in government stand whatsoever. We are committed for the taking over of the Krishna mutt ≈≥ administration.”br //phr /
