BERLIN, GERMANY, February 10, 2004: With funding from The Autumn Moon Film Fund Initiative, a collaboration of the International Buddhist Film Festival and the Conservancy for Tibetan Art and Culture, Milarepa: Revenge has been completed. It tells the story of the first half of the life of the eleventh-century Tibetan poet and yogi. Born into an affluent and compassionate family, Milarepa is cheated out of his inheritance by his aunt and uncle. In retaliation, Milarepa’s mother sells the last of her possessions so Milarepa can learn sorcery. After exacting revenge on his enemies, Milarepa realizes the suffering he has created and is riddled with guilt and remorse. He embarks upon a quest to find a teacher who can release him from his dark path. A second film is planned to cover the famous story of Milarepa’s training under his guru. Milarepa’s world premier will take place in Berlin at the 2006 Berlin International Film Festival, February 9-19. Milarepa was selected to participate in the prestigious “Berlinale Special” program. Screening dates are February 15 at 9:30 p.m. at Berlin’s historic Filmpalast; and February 16 at 8:00 p.m. at the Babylon Theatre.
