CHENNAI, INDIA, February 15, 2006: Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa today allotted a sum of US$2.6 million to carry out repairs and renovation works of temple parade chariots in 241 temples across the State. In an official press release here, Chief Minister said she had been receiving appeals from devotees to repair the temple chariots. Following this, Jayalalithaa granted funds for renovating 16 temple chariots and repairing 225 of them. The money would be given through the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department, she said. Temple chariots at Arulmigu Kapaleeswarar temple, Mylapore, Ekaampareshwarar temple, Mint Street, Karneeswarar temple, Saidapet and Chennamaleeswarar temple at Park Town are among those which would be repaired and renovated, the release said.
