NEW DELHI, August 11, 2006: The Human Resource Development Ministry as part of the central government has advocated the reinstatement of the Rashtriya Sanskrit Parishad (National Council for Sanskrit) in place of the Central Sanskrit Board that expired in 2005. The news release explains the mission of the new council, “The newly-constituted Parishad will tender advice on policy matters relating to Sanskrit, not merely to the Central Government, but also to State Governments and to apex bodies concerned with University and School Education. Some of the important areas in which the Parishad will tender advice include spreading awareness of the status of Sanskrit as the ‘mother’ of most modern Indian languages, determination of norms and standards in and modernization of Sanskrit education, promotion and coordination of research in Sanskrit, coordination of activities of various organizations working in the area of Sanskrit, propagation of Sanskrit both within the country and abroad, and international cooperation in the field of Sanskrit.”
