MOSCOW, RUSSIA, January 4, 2007: Finding an ancient Vishnu Deity in Russia during an excavation in an old village in the Volga region has led to speculation about Russia’s history. The news release says the statue dates back to the 7-10 century ce when Staraya Maini village was a highly populated city. Dr. Alexander Kozhevin, reader of Ulyanovsk State University’s archaeology department, told the news channel Vesti that, “We may consider it incredible, but we have ground to assert that Middle-Volga region was the original land of Ancient Rus. This is a hypothesis, but a hypothesis, which requires thorough research.” Kozhevin has been excavating in the village for the last seven years and has found other artifacts such as ancient coins, pendants, rings and fragments of weapons. However, it is this discovery that may change the history of ancient Russia.
