ALLAHABAD, INDIA, February 16, 2007: Siva’s most holy day of the year, Mahashivaratri, was celebrated with pomp by pilgrims taking a holy dip in the Sangam as the final day of the Ardh Kumbh concluded. The news release explained, “Massive arrangements had been made for the safety of bathers at the Sangam and at the ghats in the Mela area. The area reverberated with religious slogans and sounds. Pilgrims and citizens were seen carrying Ganga jal to be offered to Shivalingams. Once again, the surface of the Ganga was seen covered with flowers offered by the devotees.”
