MANILA, PHILIPPINES, May 29, 2007: Udupi Puttige Math seer Sri Sugunendra Thirtha Swamiji and also President of the United States based, World Conference on Religion and Peace (WCRP), welcomed the United Nations’ resolution providing special importance to the religious sphere with the support of 50 countries. According to a press release issued by the mutt, the Swamiji, delivering the key-note address at the conference of the Zonal office-bearers of the WCRP in Manila, said the recent resolution would enable the United Nations to play a crucial role in maintaining world peace. He felt that religion, which stood for endurance, had gained wider acceptance through the resolution. He argued that the responsibility of Dharma in promoting and preserving lasting progress had thus been confirmed. Religious leaders of the Asia zone, sponsored by the Defense Ministry of South Korea discussed the constitution of a new council of the religious leaders of Asia zone and also a world body of religious leaders in support of the United Nations’ Organization.
