SRINIGAR, INDIA, July 17, 2007: At least 15 people, including two pilgrims, were injured in a powerful grenade explosion near the main entrance to the Baltal base camp of the Amarnath pilgrimage in north Kashmir late on Tuesday. Police said terrorists tossed a grenade, which exploded near the entry point to the Baltal camp, 102 kms from Srinagar, where several hundred pilgrims spent their night ahead of their departure for the Hindu cave shrine of Amarnath in the Himalayas. “The injured were provided first aid at the base camp itself. However, attending doctors have referred three seriously injured persons to Srinagar for treatment,” said a senior police officer in Srinagar. He said the injured included nine Tibetan vendors, four local porters and two pilgrims.
