MISSISSAUGA, CANADA, July 12, 2007: Sheela Srinavasan will perform Streevaani-Voices of Women, a dance feature comprising the timeless poetry of Andaal, Akka Mahadevi and Mirabai, on August 4, 2007, at the Meadowvale Theatre in Mississauga, Ontario. While there is no charge for the program, donations will be accepted for the Chinmaya Organization for Rural Development (CORD). CORD aims to draw women out of the cycle of dependency through comprehensive development, at a grass roots level. For instance, money raised will go towards micro-banking groups, where they undertake a project, procure a loan for it, implement it and repay the loan. The recovery of the micro-loans has been 100%. So far the Centre has been able to reach out to more than 4,500 women and youth in these micro-enterprises. For every dollar that is raised, the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) will triple it. For more information on the CORD’s initiatives see URL above.
