USA, September 12, 2007: (HPI note: following is a press release.) The Hindu Students Council (HSC) is pleased to announce that it has appointed Varun (Sonny) Mehta to the full-time post of Executive Director of HSC. The position was officially created on August 1, 2007 in light of fulfilling new organizational needs. As the new executive director, Varun will be devoting his full time efforts to HSC for the next year, managing various projects as well as traveling to chapters all over the United States. Sonny will also be involved in an assortment of fundraising efforts for HSC, numerous public relations efforts, as well as developing resource materials for HSC.
Sonny has been involved with HSC since 2003, having been a chapter coordinator at the University of Texas at Austin, a Regional Coordinator for the South region of HSC, and serves as a current CRA Executive Member. “HSC has allowed me to find my religion, meet some wonderful people and in a small way make a change in people’s lives. I am really excited about dedicating the next year to HSC and in hopes of strengthening this movement. It is also my hope that we are able to start a trend with this, in which other recent college graduates recognize the importance of giving back before moving into their work lives,” says Sonny Mehta.
“Sonny brings tremendous enthusiasm, broad experience and strong dedication to this newly created position. He sets a leading example of how Hindu youth can serve the community as well as develop themselves spiritually, culturally and professionally,” says Nikunj Trivedi, President of HSC. The Hindu Students Council looks forward to having Sonny’s energy and enthusiasm power its efforts for the entire academic year.
