KWAZULU-NATAL, SOUTH AFRICA, December 12 2007: Premier Sibusiso Ndebele has conveyed his condolences on the passing away of Sri Swami Sahajananda, Spiritual Head of the Divine Life Society of South Africa, who passed away on December 10, 2007.
“On behalf of the government and people of KwaZulu-Natal, I wish to convey my deepest condolences on the passing away of Sri Swami Sahajananda. Swami Sahajananda was an enlightened soul whose cardinal virtue was obedience to his Divine Master, Sri Swami Sivananda. The Master asked him to serve the sick and the poor. He did this with great distinction. Swamiji dedicated himself to uplifting disadvantaged communities in the deep rural areas of our country for the past 58 years. He completed more than 300 projects including schools, old age homes, clinics, peace and skills training centres and hydroponic gardens.
“For the work that was done silently for the past 58 years, Swamiji was honoured with several awards from prominent leaders in the country and abroad. Although Swamiji did not want any publicity for the work done selflessly, in obedience to the Master, he finally consented to accept them on behalf of the Divine Master.
“Swamiji’s unassuming nature, humility, dynamic but silent leadership style and his unwavering commitment and contribution to the poor and needy, irrespective of race, colour or creed, will always be remembered,” said Premier Ndebele.
