KAUAI, HAWAII, December 22, 2007: Hinduism Today magazine is seeking a writer to produce a feature story on the impact of sea level change on the Hindu religion. At the URL above is an interactive map showing the areas inundated by a one to six meter change in sea level. The task would be to ascertain what Hindu populations would be impacted, not only in South Asia, but also Fiji, Trinidad, etc., where there is a substantial concentrated population of Hindus. A second aspect is the impact of population shifts caused by the sea level rise, such as from Bangladesh into India. A third is the direct impact upon Hindu religious sites along the ocean, such as Tiruchendur temple or Rameshwaram. If you have the background and skill to produce such an article, kindly contact ar@hindu.org.
