NEW DELHI, INDIA, January 5, 2008: Mrs. Kapila Vatsyayan, one of the foremost scholars on Indian art and culture, formally launched the inaugural issue of “Sutra,” a journal published by Shruti Foundation for research on education, psychology, traditional sciences and systems, health and consciousness. The first issue’s subject is “Spirituality- Experience, Psychology and Epistemology.”

Mrs. Vatsyayan said, “Sutra is that measuring thread of centredness and balance, which gives both discipline as also freedom. I am hopeful that the journal will explore with gravity and depth the many layers of the seminal concept of Sutra in the Indic traditions”. Delivering his keynote address, Dr. Karan Singh expressed, ” The birth of a journal was like the birth of a child from whom we have a lot of expectations. The role of Sutra or the thread was to unite all the beads and put them up as a necklace. Today we live in a world which has different nations, nationalities and races. We need to knit them all together and make them realize that the divine resides in the heart of all beings and not inside the people of any particular nationality or caste.”

Later participating in a panel discussion on the subject “Spiritual Education And Its Impact On Civilisations”, the various speakers highlighted how exclusion of spiritual education from the curricula was leading to increase of knowledge without wisdom and thus leading to disastrous conditions. Those who participated in this discussion included Swami Shantatmananda of the R.K. Mission; Ms Rani Jethamalani, Supreme Court lawyer; Dr. Kavita Sharma, Principal of the Hindu College of Delhi University, Professor Arvind Sharma, Hindu scholar, USA and Shri Rajiv Malhotra, founder of the Infinity Foundation.
