BLOOMINGDALE, ILLINOIS, January 9, 2008: Police and fire officials are investigating “suspicious” fires at a Bloomingdale home and at a Hindu temple that has been vandalized in the past.
The Shree Radhey Shyam Temple temple was ablaze Monday morning. Both fires caused exterior, but not interior, damage, officials said. No one was hurt in either blaze.
Bloomingdale Police Chief Timothy Goergen couldn’t say whether there was a link between the two fires, but did label both “suspicious.” Indra Sharma, president of the temple, said the facility has been a constant target since it opened its doors five years ago. Two or three years ago, she remembers, someone unsuccessfully tried to firebomb the temple with a Molotov cocktail. She added teenagers often target the temple for vandalism.
