BENGALURU, INDIA, February 18, 2008: The third Conference of the Acharya Sabha was held in the ancient Sri Adi Chunchanagiri Matha from February 9 to 11, 2008. The Acharya Sabha, a group of several heads of Hindu mathas from many lineages, deliberated on a variety of topics of concern and interest to Hindus world-wide and in India in particular.

The resolutions passed affirmed the Acharya Sabha’s positions on the Ram Setu bridge; global warming’s threat to Hinduism; the exploitation of holy Hindu temples and sites as touristic attractions; the need for experienced and professional management of temples by their own communities and a clear definition of who is a Hindu. The Conference also discussed misrepresentations of Hinduism on Western Academic studies, recommending the “Invading The Sacred” book to counter the problem; and the importance of preserving priceless scriptures and manuscripts.
