LAUTOKA, FIJI, May 10, 2008: Police are hunting for a group of men who broke into an 80 year old Mandir in Field 40, Lautoka, and later set it on fire.
Divisional Crime Officer Western S.P. Vijay Singh has confirmed the fire started at around five this morning and the Gangai-Yamman Kovil Mandir has been completely destroyed along with all its contents. Fijivillage spoke to some people who were at the scene, they said that all the religious idols and books have been completely destroyed. Police believe the perpetrators were looking for money and when they did not find any, they set the Mandir alight. The cost of damage is yet to be estimated.
