FREMONT, CALIFORNIA, May 23, 2008: (HPI note: We applaud the Fremont temple for this excellent program for school teachers and hope it serves as a model for other temples to reach out to their community schools.)

Fremont Hindu Temple invites educators, particularly history and social studies teachers in grades six to 12, to participate in a free seminar about Hinduism and the Indian civilization on Saturday, May 31 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 3676 Delaware Drive. Teachers who would like to be acquainted with Hinduism and its impact on the Indian civilization will be taken on a free, guided tour through the temple’s unique premises followed by an informative slide presentation on the significance of Hindu symbols and traditions. Teachers will have an opportunity to better understand their students of Indian origin and to clarify their doubts about the Hindu culture. The program, which adheres to the standard California social studies curriculum, includes innovative teaching aids through games and hands-on activities to help explain alien concepts to students in grades six to 12. To register, call India in Classrooms at (408) 867-2136, e-mail indiainclassrooms@yahoo.com or gnair07@yahoo.com, or call Fremont Hindu Temple at 659-0655. A vegetarian lunch will be served to the participants.
