NEW DELHI, INDIA, August 27, 2008: In a bid to help India achieve its national development goals, UNICEF on Thursday pledged USD 700 million for its joint initiatives with the government, UNICEF said about one-fifth of the world’s children live in India.
Stating that the USD 700 million has been pledged for achievement of overall goals of the 2008-2012 country program, India’s UNICEF representative Karin Hulsof said the initiatives are meant for fulfillment of the rights of women and children in India and help them survive, thrive, develop, participate and be protected by reducing social inequalities based on gender, caste, ethnicity or region.
