KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA, October 16, 2008: HINDRAF, a now outlawed Malaysian Hindu rights group, vowed on Thursday to continue its fight. Hindraf chairman Waytha Moorthy, who is living in exile in Britain, said that Hindraf “will continue its struggle against the UMNO regime in Malaysia, as we can no longer be cowed nor are we any longer afraid.”

Last November the Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) held a massive anti-government protest, alleging discrimination against minority ethnic Indians, and the government responded by detaining five Hindraf leaders under the Internal Security Act, which allows indefinite detention without trial. Earlier this month, HINDRAF was banned altogether.
