Kuala Lumpur, December 15, 2008: Malaysia’s National Fatwa Council has said the edicts issued by it were only “views” and are “not binding” on any state. Some Malaysian states like Sarawak had banned Yoga while several others such as Malacca and Johor are contemplating to make the practice out-of-bound for Muslims.

Yoga is very popular in this multi-ethnic country where many Malay Muslims, ethnic Indian Hindus, Christians and Chinese attend Yoga classes.

The Chairman of the Concil, Mr. Husin, said it was “a matter of wisdom” how issues should be individually managed.
