PANAJI, GOA, INDIA, January 11, 2009: “Create a temple protection law”, was the demand echoed by nearly 70,000 Hindus gathered at the SAG ground at Campal on Saturday for a meeting of the Goa Akhil Mandir Suraksha Samitti. Over 800 members of various Hindu organisations gathered to hear their leaders condemn the recent series of temple desecrations in the state.
The resolution passed at the end of the meeting demanded that those who desecrated the temples should be arrested immediately. The leaders also warned artists not to resort to distortion of figures of Hindu Gods and Goddesses. The Goa Akhil Mandir Suraksha Samitti also asked for a new law to stop conversions.
Shankaracharya Shree Vidyanarmishmabarathi Swami while addressing the crowd said that Hindus will be strong only if they unite. Swami Brahmeshanand of Goa said that Hindus should work towards strengthening temples.
