RAMANATHAPURAM, INDIA, February 6, 2009: A memorial has been constructed at Kundhukal, on Rameswaram island, where Swami Vivekananda landed on his return after attending the Parliament of World Religions at Chicago in 1893 and a series of lectures in the United States and England. “The historic place and the memorial will propagate Swami Vivekananda’s message of service to the poor to the tourists forever,” said Srimad Sadanada Maharaj, Head of Ramakrishna Tapovanam. Ministers S. Thangavelan and K.R. Periakaruppan, who declared the memorial open on Wednesday, said it would recollect the legacy of Sethupathy Kings. “The elegant beach behind the memorial is really a gift for tourism. All steps will shortly be taken to provide tourism infrastructure at Kundhukal,” said Collector R. Kirlosh Kumar.
