PUNTA ARENAS, CHILE, February 6, 2009: The city of Punta Arenas has one of the largest concentrations of the Chile’s Hindu population. This is one of the reasons why the Ambassador of India in Chile, Pradeep K. Kapur, visited the area yesterday and met with Mayor Vladimiro Mimica Carcamo for approximately 30 minutes.
The meeting addressed various issues, but the main one was the construction of a “Plaza de la India,” next to the Hindu temple in Punta Arenas, to promote cultural understanding between citizens of Chile and India. The plaza will recognize the work of those like Rabindranath Tagore, Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru.
