KATHMANDU, NEPAL, February 25, 2009: Nepal’s last king, 62-year-old Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah, left Nepal Wednesday to visit New Delhi, accompanied by his wife, former queen Komal, and sister, former princess Shobha Shahi. This is Shah’s first trip outside Nepal since his fall from power.

The former god-king, now plain Mr Gyanendra Shah, left Nepal as a commoner, apparently on a private visit to attend a wedding and visit Hindu shrines in India, including the Somnath temple in Dwarka in Gujarat. From New Delhi, the entourage will go to Bhopal where his niece Shri Manjari, a member of the former royal family of Kalahandi, Orissa, will wed another former royalty scion, Bhanwar Anant Vijay Singh. The wedding is expected to be attended by former royals from India and Nepal, top politicians and industrialists.
