(HPI note: HPI brings to the reader today news about Holi’s celebrations from a few of the gatherings all around the world where Hindus reveled in this colorful festival. Two articles highlight the fast rate of growth of Hindu temples and centers in diasporic communities.)

SOUTH OXFORD, ENGLAND, March 13, 2007: Oxfordshire’s Hindu community has organized a Holi Festival celebration in the county for the first time. People gathered at the Lake Street Community Centre in South Oxford for the festival — one of the main events in the religion’s calendar.

In the past, the county’s Hindus have had to travel to cities including London and Birmingham where there are Hindu temples. Today, families make their way to the community center to mark the festival, which represents the coming of spring and the triumph of good over evil.
