AMRITSAR, PUNJAB, INDIA, March 12, 2009: In this city replete with temples containing beautiful frescos and wall paintings based on Hindu lore, this priceless heritage is fast disappearing, due to the indifference of caretakers and absence of government policy to preserve art.
The sanctum sanctorum of the Radha-Krishan temple at Nawa Kot, for example, is painted with beautiful frescos; but the bottom portion of the walls have been covered with tiles, and the beautiful paintings still in view on the upper portion have suffered from careless preservation. This is a trend in many states of North India.
