RAIPUR, CHHATTISGARH, INDIA, June 4, 2009:In the first phase of a survey conducted by the National Mission for Manuscripts and assisted by locals, around 2,000 manuscripts have been collected from various archaeological and remote sites in Chhattisgarh, officials said.
Written mostly on palm leaves and paper, these manuscripts contain texts in Sanskrit, Oriya and Devnagiri with scriptures related to ancient medicine and astrology which are expected to provide an insight into the culture of this tribal state.
The manuscripts have been indexed and numbered. The second phase of this survey will study the manuscripts. “The state government is taking various steps to collect these manuscripts with a view to conserve local culture and tradition,” an official declared.
