NEW ZEALAND, June 22, 2009: Indian students might prefer New Zealand for higher studies and immigration after they were being targeted in Australia. Though New Zealand is close to Australia, there is marked difference in the country’s attitude towards multi-ethnic society and tolerant towards Asian race. New Zealand has a society more favorable to Indian Hindus, according to New Zealand High Commissioner to India, Rupert Holborow. He says that India has become an important source country for students in recent years.

“Around four to five years ago the number of Indian students in New Zealand was 500. Today that figure is 5000 plus. The New Zealand Government very much welcomes this growing student body in New Zealand,” he says.
