NEW DELHI, INDIA, June 28, 2009: Depictions of God Shiva are a pop sensation for an increasing number of youngsters today in India, adorning their tees and the walls of their rooms, and inspiring local musicians.
It’s fueling the business of a chain of small shops in Delhi’s Paharganj area. Here you’ll get everything from posters to t-shirts and bags with pictures of most Gods and Goddesses. Sonu, the owner of one shop, deals in hand-painted posters. He has a huge variety of them, in batik and velvet. “Shiva is the favorite with Indians,” he said, “but Ganesha is loved by Westerners.”
