NEW DELHI, INDIA, July 5, 2009: An American beer company has apologized for using the image of Lord Ganesha to sell beer. It has removed the image from its beer labels and from its internet advertising.

Lost Coast Brewery had printed Lord Ganesha’s image on the label of their Indica Pale Ale beer, depicting Him holding one bottle of beer in his one of His four hands and another in His trunk.

In an e-mailed apology, the company’s general manager and marketing director said they had not known the image was that of a Hindu God, but they realized the seriousness of the issue after receiving complaints from across the globe. “We apologize for hurting Hindu religious sentiments.”
