OCALA, FLORIDA, USA, July 18, 2009: An exhibit called “The Art of Ganesh” opened Friday at the Central Florida Community College. The exhibit contains 65-70 photographs and sculptures illustrating the importance of the popular good-luck God. Believers pray to Ganesh before taking on any new venture, like buying a car or home, starting a new business or getting married.
“The belief is that worship of Lord Ganesh before any event prevents any obstacles and promises that everything will go smoothly,” explained Jasbir Mehta, the coordinator. Mehta collected the sculptures and paintings from students and contemporary artists, and commissioned photographs from all over India, for almost two years. The exhibit will run through Sept. 5.
