SRINAGAR, JAMMU AND KASHMIR, INDIA, July 25, 2009: Over 350,000 people have visited the Amarnath cave shrine in the Kashmir valley since the two-month-long pilgrimage began on June 5; and according to an official of the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board, “It has all been going smoothly.”
Every day pilgrims visit the shrine from both the Baltal base camp in north Kashmir and the Pahalgam base camp in south Kashmir, assisted by hundreds of locals who give people a ride on their ponies and even carry the sick and infirm.
