INDIA, August 16, 2009: Namo, a design house launched in 2007 which specializes in the devotional space, is the brainchild of Delhi-based Pankaj Verma and his wife, Julie Bose.
Verma is a 40-something NID graduate who worked as an interior designer for two decades before starting his own company. He explains, “Apartments are getting fancier, but we still have a traditional mindset in the way we do up our personal spaces, our pooja ghars. We wanted something contemporary, not hip.” He has experimented largely with stainless steel, hand-crafting and laser-cutting it; Namo’s designs are “clean and minimal”, in line with recent trends in design.
[HPI note: Hindu scripture such as the Agamas and Vastu Shastras strictly forbids the use of iron — and therefore, steel — in shrines and temples. The rishis warned against the vibration of iron as disruptive to spiritual energies.]
