MUMBAI, INDIA, August 24, 2009: When devotes celebrated Ganesh Chaturthi in Mumbai with fervor, several religious groups in Mumbai took pride in worshipping Ganesha murthis in makeshift temples, called pandals. At Wadala in Mumbai, a community Ganesha Puja has been organized where the murthi is believed to be the most spectacular of all — as far as material wealth goes.

According to the organizers, its gold ornaments weigh around 143 pounds while the silver ones are in the range of 550 pounds.

The murthi of Ganesha has been created under the banner of GSB Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Samiti group, a community of Hindus hailing from the coastal areas of Karnataka and Kerala. Their mother tongue is Konkani.
